One of the most common investment-related links available on the Net are quote servers -- most of which cater to U.S. investors. They include Telescan, Security APL's Quote Server, InterQuote (which has PC software that provides a continuous stock price ticker on your screen), Quote.Com, and PCQuote, which is also publicly-listed on Nasdaq. If you have any comments or additions, feel free to e-mail me.

Nasdaq itself just recently entered the stock quote and financial news market -- the exchange announced that it will offer not just free stock quotes (20 minutes delayed) but also email notification of news about companies they include in their portfolios. Subscribers may establish up to ten portfolios with 30 stocks apiece. There's a catch: companies listed with Nasdaq will get email addresses of investors who have registered that company in their portfolio. Brokerage houses that do business with Nasdaq also will get those addresses. Other sites include JustQuotes.com, and Data Broadcasting Corp has a nice site with lots of free quotes. StockMaster is a site based on research involving a supercomputer at MIT and an artificial intelligence program. For you Canucks, Canada Trust has a free stock-quote service, and a good stock quote and fundamental data sites for Canadian stocks is Canada Stockwatch, which is run by veteran Vancouver-based market watcher John Woods. You can create a portfolio, track it in real time and run any kind of chart you want.

For tracking markets through the day, Security APL has a page called Market Watch they say is updated every three minutes, and a nice site with one-stop access to charts of stock and economic data is InvestSIG. There's also Zacks Investment Service, which provides summaries of brokers' earnings estimates for U.S. stocks, and will give you free estimates for five stocks. Another earnings estimate service is IBES (Institutional Brokers Estimate Service). Mark McKenzie's Technical Tools, provides data for futures, stocks, cash prices, indices and mutual funds on all major domestic and foreign exchanges. It also has Windows-based software for stock charting and analysis.

Thomson Investment Services has a site that offers real-time quotes, called Thomson Real-Time Quotes, and if you're looking for a little excitement with your stock info, you can have a peek at Sex Quotes, which is just what it implies. If you're interested in information on trading pork bellies, sugar futures and that type of commodity, The Chicago Mercantile Exchange is probably what you're looking for. The American Stock Exchange, a smaller exchange with some big companies and a thriving derivatives business, is here. Another popular feature on the Web are currency converters, so you can tell how many dollars your stake in Metallgesellschaft AG is worth by converting from pfennigs, such as the Exchange Rate Gopher.
