{"id":2207,"date":"2008-02-10T21:52:15","date_gmt":"2008-02-11T02:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mathewingram.com\/work\/2008\/02\/10\/books-20-neil-gaiman-goes-free\/"},"modified":"2008-02-10T21:52:15","modified_gmt":"2008-02-11T02:52:15","slug":"books-20-neil-gaiman-goes-free","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mathewingram.com\/work\/2008\/02\/10\/books-20-neil-gaiman-goes-free\/","title":{"rendered":"Books 2.0: Neil Gaiman goes free"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Cory Doctorow over at BoingBoing has the news that author Neil Gaiman has gotten approval from his publisher to offer one of his books <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boingboing.net\/2008\/02\/09\/which-book-should-ne.html\">online for free<\/a> &#8212; perhaps inspired by the story of Brazilian author Paulo Coelho, who started <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mathewingram.com\/work\/2008\/01\/24\/books-does-piracy-now-marketing\/\">pirating his own books<\/a> and noticed that sales of actual physical copies of his books began to take off as a result. Other authors who have experimented with a similar approach include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sheehanmiles.com\/blogid\/2970\">Charles Sheehan-Miles<\/a> and economist <a href=\"http:\/\/levine.sscnet.ucla.edu\/general\/intellectual\/againstfinal.htm\">David Levine<\/a>.
