{"id":2060,"date":"2007-12-26T15:41:54","date_gmt":"2007-12-26T20:41:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mathewingram.com\/work\/2007\/12\/26\/video-interlude-evolution-and-clocks\/"},"modified":"2007-12-26T15:41:54","modified_gmt":"2007-12-26T20:41:54","slug":"video-interlude-evolution-and-clocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mathewingram.com\/work\/2007\/12\/26\/video-interlude-evolution-and-clocks\/","title":{"rendered":"Video interlude: Evolution and clocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I suppose this might appear to be in questionable taste, given how close we are to Christmas, but I came across a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mcAq9bmCeR0\">fascinating YouTube video<\/a> (via Metafilter) which shows the results of a program designed to reproduce the elements of evolution &#8212; using rudimentary clocks and clock-related mechanisms as the building blocks of life. <\/p>\n<p>The person who wrote the program intended it as a refutation of the argument that evolution must be wrong because complicated mechanisms such as clocks (and eyeballs) don&#8217;t just emerge by themselves.
