{"id":1567,"date":"2007-07-15T11:04:43","date_gmt":"2007-07-15T15:04:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mathewingram.com\/work\/2007\/07\/15\/not-really-a-blogging-birthday-but\/"},"modified":"2007-07-15T11:04:43","modified_gmt":"2007-07-15T15:04:43","slug":"not-really-a-blogging-birthday-but","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mathewingram.com\/work\/2007\/07\/15\/not-really-a-blogging-birthday-but\/","title":{"rendered":"Not really a blogging birthday, but&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" class=\"left\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.mathewingram.com\/work\/wp-content\/uploads\/snipshot_e41c2p5kvbdh.jpg?w=525\" alt='snipshot_e41c2p5kvbdh.jpg' \/>As Duncan Riley <a href=\"http:\/\/www.duncanriley.com\/2007\/07\/15\/wall-street-journal-tries-to-re-write-blogging-history\/\">points out<\/a>, the Wall Street Journal&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB118436667045766268.html\">article<\/a> celebrating the 10th birthday of blogging is a little late, considering Justin Hall &#8212; who I and others believe was the first real blogger &#8212; and even Dave Winer were doing it as far back as 1994 (although that was before Jorn Barger coined the term <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blog\">weblog<\/a>). In any case, it&#8217;s nice to see the WSJ taking note of blogging as a real phenomenon, rather than just doing another drive-by criticism of it. They even feature my pal Scott Karp from Publishing 2.0, who does a video essay on <a href=\"http:\/\/publishing2.com\/2007\/07\/13\/bloggers-can-be-journalists\/\">blogging and journalism<\/a>. And as Jason at Webomatica <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webomatica.com\/wordpress\/2007\/07\/13\/wall-street-journal-decade-of-blogging-article\/\">points out<\/a>, it&#8217;s interesting to see that Mia Farrow has taken up blogging (and is a Boing Boing fan), or that Tom Wolfe sees blogging as important enough to dump all over in his classic style. Meanwhile, Mark Evans has his <a href=\"http:\/\/markevanstech.com\/2007\/07\/12\/my-11-blog-lessons\/\">11 lessons<\/a> he&#8217;s learned from blogging, his answer to Marc Andreessen&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.pmarca.com\/2007\/07\/eleven-lessons-.html\">recent list<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>Update:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mappingtheweb.com\/2007\/07\/14\/blog-lessons\/\">Aidan Henry<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.larixconsulting.com\/2007\/07\/15\/after-two-plus-years-blogging-what-have-i-learned-2\/\">Tris Hussey<\/a> have responded to Mark&#8217;s (and Marc&#8217;s) post with their own list of lessons.
